Sarah Town

Sarah Town is a performer, teacher, and scholar; a musician and dancer. She has studied classical, Latin, jazz, and traditional genres in a variety of community and academic settings. She holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, City College of New York, and Princeton University, and is grateful to many teachers and mentors including Birute Smetona, Rebeca Mauleón, Christina Price, Sharman Durán, Eithne Ní Chatháin, Berta Armiñán, Kati Hernández, Gamo da Paz, Scott Kettner, Mestre Zumbi, Kofi Agawu, and the members of her own projects, sarah y su cachito and sabrosura.
Town has presented and published widely on topics related to Cuban popular dance culture. She has recorded and released one studio album with sarah y su cachito, uno. Additional performance highlights include The Magic Flute with Lyric Opera Cleveland; San Francisco Carnival with Abadá Capoeira and Quimbanda; New York’s Lincoln Center with Maracatu New York and Estrela Brilhante; Hopscotch and Artsplosure Festivals in Raleigh; and Durham’s Nasher Museum and Carolina Theatre in partnership with Mambo Dinamico.
