Ramon Ortíz

Ramon Ortiz was born into a musical family in Bayaguana, Dominican Republic, and grew up in Santo Domingo. He got his musical start playing rock before joining the Super Orquesta de San José with Tata Molina as director and his own father as subdirector. At the same time, he began his percussion studies at the Conservatorio Nacional in Santo Domingo.

Ortiz later relocated to Montreal, Canada, where he continued performing Latin, jazz, and rock music. Highlights include performances with Dave Valentín, Ray Vega, Raúl Rosendo, Cirque Du Soleil, Men at Work, and Joaquín Díaz. He has performed at the Montreal jazz festival on multiple occasions and toured internationally. Since relocating to North Carolina, Ortiz has performed with Orquesta GarDel, La Fiesta, and West End Mambo as well as the Greensboro Symphony, among many others.
