Orqesta GarDel

Orquesta GardelOrquesta GarDel, Durham, North Carolina, July 30, 2012. Photo by D.L. Anderson

Thoroughly multinational but uniquely North Carolinian, Orquesta GarDel thrills audiences with a high-energy Latin dance music experience. The monstrous thirteen-member lineup replicates the format of a classic Nuyorican salsa dura ensemble – a full deck of horn players, percussionists, and coro singers. Rooted in its own arrangements of songs from the great salsa, cumbia, and merengue artists, this is ultimately not a cover band. In 2011 Orquesta GarDel released its debut EP, Lo Que Tú Querías, which consists entirely of original compositions. As GarDel continues to write, flavors of edgy jazz and funky Cuban timba continue to pour from the stage onto the dance floor. The band tours the southeast, having headlined from Roanoke, VA to Charleston, SC, including appearances at the Lake Eden Arts Festival, Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Art Museum, La Fiesta del Pueblo, and Raleigh-Durham hometown venues like Cat’s Cradle and Motorco Music Hall.

Founded in 2006 by David Garcia, a professor of ethnomusicology at UNC Chapel Hill, and singer Nelson Delgado, Orquesta GarDel’s members straddle multiple generations, combining Latino music veterans with African- and Anglo-American jazzers. The group is currently directed by pianist Eric Hirsh and trombonist Andy Kleindienst.

RenzoDJ Renzo
DJ Renzo was raised listening to and enjoying music from a young age.  While the opportunity to become a DJ while working at a radio station in college would come and go, it wasn’t until January of 2008 that he would seriously consider the art of translating his passion for music to others.

A local DJ was traveling abroad and asked Renzo, just a music collector at the time, if he could cover for him at a local venue for a week.  Renzo agreed – and so began his journey into the DJ world. The dancers really enjoyed his music and a local promoter asked if he would consider being a DJ more regularly.

Since then DJ Renzo quickly moved through the ranks and has served as a DJ at many music festivals, both nationally and internationally to include:  Capital Salsa Congress (D.C.), D.C. Bachata Congress, Orlando Salsa Congress, Chicago Salsa Congress, Connecticut Salsa Festival, Madrid Salsa Festival (Spain), Extreme Japan (Tokyo), Aventura Dance Cruise (Miami/Barbados), Salsa Mambo Festival (Palm Springs, CA), Philly Salsa Festival (Philadelphia) and many other mid-level and smaller events as well.  Renzo’s professionalism, vast musical knowledge, attention to detail, experience as a military officer, and experience as a mid-level manager in Corporate America encouraged many of the promoters to ask him to be the Head DJ and to run tech rehearsals and performances.

Julio Sabroso

Born and raised in NYC, Julio was exposed to a wide spectrum of musical influences. After his move to NC in 2011, he quickly became one of the top DJ’s in the state’s Latin dance scene today.

DJ Clase is one of the founders of Latin Vibe Entertainment,  hosting parties like Eleganza, Seduccion , The Salsa & Bachata Throw Down and Vinilo Rumba (an all Vinyl social).  He can also be found spinning at parties like Mojito Night, Sabor Latino, Salsa & Bachata Affair, Aura Dance Studio Dance Social, as well as other out-of-state events where he is featured.  His passion and focus for Latin music has driven him to become an avid music collector with hundreds of vinyl records.

In addition of taking care of the perfect music mixes to please the dance audience, Julio prides himself on collaborating with event coordinators and vendors to ensure that events runs smoothly, and everyone is equipped with tools needed to have a great time.

Genre of style and music specializing in: Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha, Reggaeton, Latin House, Top 40.

Carlos Reyes
Is the owner and artistic director of Mambo Revolution, and formal member of Mambo Dinamico. Carlos Reyes was introduced to Latin rhythms like Salsa, Pachanga, Boogaloo Cha-cha-cha by Norberto “Betto” Herrera.  After working with Mambo Dinamico for eight years, Carlos moved to St. Louis, MO to start a new career and follow his dreams.  Salsa dancing is Carlos’ passion, which led him to start a Mambo Revolution Dance Company. With the experience of DJing, dancing and performing Latin Music, he created a new movement helping the St. Louis community to unify and grow together as social dancers and performers.  Carlos has become one of the main Salsa DJs in St. Louis by playing weekly at Club Viva, St. Louis Salsa Congress, as well as hosting one of the best Salsa Socials in Missouri.
