Salsa/Mambo – Level 1 and 2 – Raw and Intermediate Beginner @ Carmen's Cuban Cafe

beginners classThis mixed level class is where beginners start. After an initial warm-up, we split into two groups as follows.

Raw Beginner: If you are taking your first class this is where you need to start.  You are just learning your three basics steps and basic turns.

Intermediate Beginner: You should know how to lead and follow Cross Body Leads, left and right turns and extensions.

Level I: Beginner (1st class)

Tuesday Salsa Night @ Carmen's Cuban Cafe

Salsa After Work at Carmen's Cuban CafeStressed after work? Wanting to meet new people? Not in a mood to cook? Join us for a different type of party to relax. Salsa After Work Tuesday has a chill environment with no cliques or fashion shows. Come with comfortable attire or whatever you have on. Enjoy a delicious Cuban meal if you feel like dinner out, and dance the night away so you can be relaxed the next morning for work.

NO NEED TO PRE-REGISTER

Pre-Dance Dinner Options

At Carmen’s you can dine with friends before 7 pm or just grab a quick bite from the restaurant. Also there is a Happy Hour that you can enjoy and be completely relaxed for the class and party.

Classes

At 7 pm we start working off those Cuban calories with hour-long Raw Beginners and Advanced Beginners salsa/mambo classes. This classes will cover all the fundamentals for salsa, mambo and cha-cha dancing, including leading and following techniques, timing, Cuban motion, spinning techniques, partner connection, etc.

Dance Social

At 9pm we start dancing – early enough so you can make it to work the next morning – with instructor and salsa/mambo DJ, Betto Herrera.

Do you or a friend have a birthday coming up? You can request free entry to the dance social for the birthday guy or gal, and a free birthday dance here. Please submit the request at least 3 days in advance.

Prices

  • $15 for class (includes dance social) or $10 w/ student ID
  • $5 for the dance social
  • Or use an unexpired “Mambo Card”

  • Bachata Footwork – Proper bachata footwork, turns and different stylish variations.
  • Bachata Partnerwork – We will work on how to connect with your partner in close frame and feel each other’s movement.

Intermediate Level: You should be able to get a double spin on your own.  You are leading and following basic patterns and variations in tune with the music.  You continue developing your shines and begin to include them in every dance.

  • Footwork Challenge – Fast paced footwork to challenge your skill and control. Complete the challenge and the class is free.
  • Partnerwork – Turn patterns that will include multiple turns, wraps, whips and sweeps.
