Nery Garcia and Giana Montoya (Fort Myers, FL) Nery Garcia and Giana Montoya are the directors of Elegant Rumba Dance Company. They are two of the most sought after instructors, performers, and choreographers who have headlined salsa events around the world and performed for some of the biggest names in latin music including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, and Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz.

Between the two, they have been featured on MTV’s MADE, Season 4 of “So You Think You Can Dance,” NIKE’s Rockstar campaign, and choreography showcases around the country. They are known as salsa’s most diverse couple, drawing and fusing their extensive background in theatre, jazz, Afro-Carribean dance, and yoga/acroyoga into their shows. Nery and Giana combine classic and always exciting LA-style salsa with an unapologetic flair for romance, artistry, and virtuoso story-telling. The result is a truly unique experience that is every bit as flamboyant as it is intimate.

DSC_4652-2Julissa Cruz has been training, teaching coaching and performing dance for over 20 years.  As a child, she would spend hours dancing to videos in front of the tv until her Mother enrolled her in dance classes at the age of 9. She would go on to train in jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and the Latin dance arts.

At the age of 15, she began to combine her passion for dance with a new found love of teaching at Leggz Dance Academy, first as an assistant teacher and later developing her own youth hip hop program there. In addition, Julissa also served as director of the Salsa Heat professional dance company, teaching with them for 4 years before venturing out on her own as a solo artist. Since then, she has performed and taught throughout the U.S. and beyond on her own, while collaborating with other world-renowned performers such as Andy Cruz, Gordon Neil, Ana Masacote, Benjamin Cartagena and Liz Becerra.

In 2009, Julissa married and relocated to Richmond, VA where she founded Latin Vintage, and has become the proud mother of three. She is passionate about the creation and development of dancers, as well as creating enthusiasts of the art and culture. Julissa continues to be inspired by the integrity of movement, and hopes to share this with others for years to come.

Orqesta GarDel

Thoroughly multinational but uniquely North Carolinian, Orquesta GarDel thrills audiences with a high-energy Latin dance music experience. The monstrous thirteen-member lineup replicates the format of a classic Nuyorican salsa dura ensemble – a full deck of horn players, percussionists, and coro singers. Rooted in its own arrangements of songs from the great salsa, cumbia, and merengue artists, this is ultimately not a cover band. In 2011 Orquesta GarDel released its debut EP, Lo Que Tú Querías, which consists entirely of original compositions. As GarDel continues to write, flavors of edgy jazz and funky Cuban timba continue to pour from the stage onto the dance floor. The band tours the southeast, having headlined from Roanoke, VA to Charleston, SC, including appearances at the Lake Eden Arts Festival, Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Art Museum, La Fiesta del Pueblo, and Raleigh-Durham hometown venues like Cat’s Cradle and Motorco Music Hall.

Founded in 2006 by David Garcia, a professor of ethnomusicology at UNC Chapel Hill, and singer Nelson Delgado, Orquesta GarDel’s members straddle multiple generations, combining Latino music veterans with African- and Anglo-American jazzers. The group is currently directed by pianist Eric Hirsh and trombonist Andy Kleindienst.

RenzoDJ Renzo
DJ Renzo was raised listening to and enjoying music from a young age.  While the opportunity to become a DJ while working at a radio station in college would come and go, it wasn’t until January of 2008 that he would seriously consider the art of translating his passion for music to others.

A local DJ was traveling abroad and asked Renzo, just a music collector at the time, if he could cover for him at a local venue for a week.  Renzo agreed – and so began his journey into the DJ world. The dancers really enjoyed his music and a local promoter asked if he would consider being a DJ more regularly.

Since then DJ Renzo quickly moved through the ranks and has served as a DJ at many music festivals, both nationally and internationally to include:  Capital Salsa Congress (D.C.), D.C. Bachata Congress, Orlando Salsa Congress, Chicago Salsa Congress, Connecticut Salsa Festival, Madrid Salsa Festival (Spain), Extreme Japan (Tokyo), Aventura Dance Cruise (Miami/Barbados), Salsa Mambo Festival (Palm Springs, CA), Philly Salsa Festival (Philadelphia) and many other mid-level and smaller events as well.  Renzo’s professionalism, vast musical knowledge, attention to detail, experience as a military officer, and experience as a mid-level manager in Corporate America encouraged many of the promoters to ask him to be the Head DJ and to run tech rehearsals and performances.

DJ Monte Albándjmontealban
Eliuth Lopez, better known as DJ Monte Albán, started his journey as a playing music in family and friends parties in Los Angeles, CA. Three years later he moved to North Carolina and started to immerse himself in the salsa world.

In North Carolina Eliuth met two brothers who helped him getting in the scene, DJ Tino “La Voz Del Camino and DJ Samuel).   They invited him to join a group of DJ’s, Organizacion Búhos, in which Eliuth participates as a professional deejay in events like Diamante Awards, Latin Chamber of Commerce of NC Annual Gala, among other important events.

A few years later, Mr. Jack Wolf invited him as a guest deejay for the Sunday Salsa Socials and quickly he became one of the regular deejays for this great social.   His popularity grew quickly and as a result he was invited to play in events for Mambo Dinamico Dance Company, Wilmington Latin Dance and DJ Salsa Mike.

Now days he can be found playing his great music selection in events like Sunday Salsa Social, Agua y Fuego, and organizes his own event at Carmen’s Cuban Café – Rumba Night.

djmixtecomixDJ Mixteco Mix (aka Jorge Victoria) originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, started his journey as a deejay in 2015 as a guest deejay at Carmen’s Cuban Café. He has also been invited to spin salsa in at Mexican restaurant like Los Tres Magueyes.

His passion is the music, “I love to dance salsa and I enjoy sharing this multifaceted passion through dancing or music with people from other cultures.”

DJ Mixteco Mix’s main goal is to make you dance, sweat and have a fantastic time! He can be found keeping people on their dancing toes on Tuesday nights as a regular guest deejay and Agua y Fuego every fourth Friday at Carmen’s Cuban Café. He plays a wide range of Latin music including salsa, mambo, cha-cha, guaguanco, boogaloo, pachanga, charanga, and more. He also plays other genres as well, including popular Mexican, American and European music.

Jorge is very proud of his heritage and this is the reason he adopted this professional name. “Mixteco” comes from the indigenous Mesoamerican people of Mexico, who lived a region known as La Mixteca of Oaxaca and Puebla.
